Campus Clarity

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

Campus Clarity LLC (“Campus Clarity,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides this Privacy Policy to describe how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the Campus Clarity mobile application (the “App” or “Services”).

Campus Clarity is a mobile application that provides college students with a single, consolidated platform for campus life, including dining hall menus, campus events, local business deals, a campus map, campus resources, and push notifications. Campus Clarity may also integrate with a student’s institutional learning management system (such as Canvas) to display academic assignment information. Campus Clarity is offered to students at partner colleges and universities and requires a valid institutional email address to access.

By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Services. If you have questions, contact us at campusclarity.app@gmail.com.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

When you create and use a Campus Clarity account, we collect the following information that you provide directly:

  • Name
  • Institutional (.edu) email address, which also serves as your login identifier
  • Authentication data from your institution's single sign-on system (Microsoft Azure AD / Entra ID); Campus Clarity never receives or stores your institutional password
  • Contact and authentication data associated with your account
  • Interests and notification preferences you select during onboarding, used to tailor which notifications you receive
  • Event RSVPs
  • Feedback you choose to submit through our optional survey

Sensitive Information

We treat account login information and student status (verified through your institutional email address) as sensitive information. We process this information only as necessary to operate the Services and do not use it to profile you or make automated decisions about you.

Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Services, certain information is collected automatically, including:

  • Log and usage data — IP address, app activity, timestamps, and diagnostic information.
  • Device data — device model, operating system, unique device identifiers, and push notification tokens.
  • Engagement logs — in-app actions such as deal clicks, resource views, and directions requested, tied to your user ID. This information is accessible only to authorized Campus Clarity staff through the admin portal, and these logs are permanently deleted if you delete your account.

Academic Information (Canvas Integration)

If you choose to connect your Canvas account, Campus Clarity accesses read-only information limited to your course names, assignment titles, due dates, and assignment submission status (used only to hide already-completed items), along with a deep link back to the assignment in Canvas. This access requires your direct, individual authorization through Canvas’s own login process, and the resulting access token is scoped to your account only.

We do not access, request, or store:

  • Grades, scores, or grade history
  • Submission content or files
  • Canvas inbox messages or announcements
  • Any other student's data
  • Instructor or administrative data
  • Any write, edit, or delete permissions within Canvas

Canvas assignment data is cached on your device for performance, and due dates are stored securely on our servers solely to trigger reminder notifications. Canvas access tokens are stored in your device’s secure platform storage (iOS Keychain) and are never stored on Campus Clarity servers.

Canvas integration is not yet available and will only become active once implemented and enabled by your institution. This Privacy Policy will be updated at that time to reflect any changes to our data practices.

Face ID / Biometric Authentication

If your device supports it, you may use Face ID as a convenience for signing in. Face ID is processed entirely on your device by Apple; Campus Clarity never receives, transmits, or stores any biometric data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the Services, including dining menus, events, resources, campus map, local deals, and push notifications
  • Create and manage your account
  • Send administrative information, such as account notices and security updates
  • Send marketing and promotional communications, such as push notifications about events and local deals
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide support
  • Request feedback through our optional survey
  • Evaluate and improve the Services, identify usage trends, and determine the effectiveness of promotional campaigns
  • Protect the security of the Services, including fraud monitoring and prevention
  • Comply with our legal obligations

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or share (as those terms are defined under applicable privacy law) your personal information with third parties for advertising or other independent use. We disclose personal information only to the service providers who help us operate the Services, under agreements that limit their use of your information to the services they provide us:

  • Supabase — cloud database hosting, and user account registration and authentication.
  • Expo — push notification delivery and app infrastructure.
  • Vercel — hosting for our administrative portal.
  • Apple — App Store distribution of the App.
  • Microsoft (Azure AD / Entra ID) — single sign-on authentication through your institution's identity system.
  • Google (Gmail) — delivery of transactional account emails.
  • Nutrislice — provides dining menu data to us. Nutrislice is a public data source consumed inbound only; no personal information is ever sent to Nutrislice.

We may also disclose information: to comply with legal obligations or valid requests from public authorities; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Campus Clarity, our users, or the public; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of company assets, in which case we will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Security

We maintain the following security measures to protect your personal information:

  • AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit (HTTPS only)
  • Our database hosting provider is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and ISO 27001 certified
  • Row Level Security enforced at the database level, so each student can access only their own records
  • Administrative portal sessions automatically time out after 15 minutes of inactivity
  • Audit logging on key administrative actions

Despite these measures, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account remains active. There is no automatic deletion of data due to account inactivity.

If you delete your account, or submit a request that we delete your information, all associated personal data — including profile information, RSVPs, engagement logs, cached Canvas data, and stored tokens — is permanently deleted within 30 days through our automated deletion process.

We may retain limited information beyond these periods where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, enforce our agreements, or as required by residual backup retention schedules, in which case such data is isolated from further routine processing until deletion is possible.

6. Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for currently enrolled college and university students and are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 16 years of age or a currently enrolled college or university student. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information and deactivate the associated account. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at campusclarity.app@gmail.com.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the right to:

  • Know whether we are processing your personal information
  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccuracies in your personal information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Obtain a copy of the personal information you have shared with us
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

You can exercise most of these rights directly within the app — for example, deleting your account triggers our automated deletion process. For any request that isn’t self-service within the app, including access, correction, or deletion requests, contact us at campusclarity.app@gmail.com.

You may use the same email address to appeal a decision if we decline to act on your request. We will respond in writing with our decision and the reasons for it. If your appeal is denied, you may submit a complaint to your state attorney general.

We will need to verify your identity before fulfilling any request. If you would like to designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, we may require proof that the agent is validly authorized to act for you.

Opting Out of Marketing and Promotional Communications

You can opt out of marketing and promotional push notifications at any time by adjusting your notification preferences within the app’s settings, or by disabling push notifications through your device’s notification settings. We may still send you service-related messages that are necessary for the administration of your account.

Do Not Track

Campus Clarity is a native mobile application and does not use browser-based cookies or tracking technologies. Because there is no uniform standard for how mobile applications should respond to Do Not Track browser signals, we do not currently respond to them.

8. Nebraska Residents

If you are a resident of Nebraska, the rights described in Section 7 above apply to you under the Nebraska Data Privacy Act. We have not sold or shared any personal information with third parties for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding twelve months.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide additional notice such as an in-app notification. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
